Hawks Fall to Crosstown Rival SUNY Oneonta

            ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick's women's basketball was beaten at home by SUNY Oneonta on Tuesday night, 50-39. Both teams struggled shooting the basketball all night, but the Red Dragons made nine three-pointers to the Hawks' three in the win.
            The loss drops Hartwick to 1-5 on the season overall. Oneonta improves to 2-2.
            Taylor Vonasek (Willington, CT/E.O. Smith) and Jacqui Foreman (Tolland, CT/Tolland) each recorded double-doubles for the Hawks. Vonasek scored a team-high 12 points and she added 12 rebounds. Foreman scored 11 points and grabbed a game-high 13 boards.
            Hartwick fell behind by a count of 5-2 before buckets from Foreman and Vonasek gave the Hawks their only lead of the night, 6-5, with 2:55 left in the opening quarter. The Red Dragons would get the final four points of the quarter to take a 9-6 lead after 10 minutes.
            Oneonta would out-score the Hawks 12-3 over the first eight and a half minutes of the second quarter to open up a 22-9 advantage. Five straight points to close the period cut the deficit to 22-14 at halftime.
            The Hawks trimmed it to nine early in the third quarter before the Red Dragons answered and held at least a double-digit lead for the rest of the quarter.
            A layup and back-to-back three-pointers from Oneonta in the first 1:19 of the third quarter handed the Red Dragons their biggest lead of the night of 18 points, 40-22. A 10-0 Hartwick run over the next six minutes, capped by a Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) basket, cut the margin to eight points, 40-32, with under three minutes to play. The teams then traded three-pointers and Hartwick had a chance to inch closer but couldn't convert. Oneonta would add three shots from the free-throw line and never led by less than nine the rest of the way to earn the victory.
            Both teams shot 25% from the floor in the contest. Oneonta would the rebounding battle narrowly, 48-45.
            Corbett would finish the night with a game-high five assists to go along with six rebounds and four points for the Hawks. Alicia Razanousky (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) scored five points and Jessica Bellai (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) netted four. Foreman also registered a game-high five steals.
             Cara Adams led Oneonta with a game-high 14 points. Lyteshia Price had a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.
              Hartwick is off until its trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico later this month. The Hawks play Randolph-Macon on December 19 at 10 a.m.
