Fast start propels Blue Devils to win over Augsburg, 78-69

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (November 23, 2015) - UW-Stout got off to a fast start and finished with four players scoring in double digits on their way to a 78-69 win over Augsburg College Monday.

The Blue Devils (2-2) jumped out to a 17-6 first quarter lead, shooting better than 50 percent out of the gate. The Auggies (2-1) tightened the score by halftime to 35-27, then took a one-point 46-45 lead with 2:34 left in the third quarter. A lay-up by Shannan Watkins (Fr, Hoover, Ala) and a steal and 3-point bucket by Nicole Schaub (Jr, Minneapolis, Minn) gave Stout a 50-46 lead and the Blue Devils never trailed again.

As a team, the Blue Devils finished shooting 31-of-62 from the field for a season-best 50 percent. This game was played primarily inside the arc as both teams shot 2-of-11 from 3-point range. The Blue Devils also held a 42-32 advantage off the glass.

Kyleigh Hebert (Sr, Spencer) and Jenna Goldsmith (Jr, St. Anthony, Minn) both popped in 14 points.  Goldsmith pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Watkins added 13 points and five rebounds and Schaub finished with 11 points, hitting both of Stout's 3-pointers. Anna Brown (So, Wausau) had five rebounds.

The Auggies were led by Maria Laughlin's 14 points. Hannah Steinhaus scored 11 points and had a game-high nine rebounds.
