Alverno Clips Host Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A strong second half propelled Alverno College to a 69-65 victory over the host Tigers in the Colorado College Tipoff Classic Friday evening inside Reid Arena.

Karli Selear capped off the Inferno's 13-0 run that ended the third quarter with a steal and a three-point play for a 57-51 Alverno lead. Mollie Mikyska's layup with just over a minute left in the period gave the visitors their first lead of the game, also the lead for good.

Alverno (2-1) got off to a slow start and trailed by 10 at the end of the first quarter, but scored the last six points of the second quarter -- a Brooke McBain layup and a pair of 2-for-2 trips to the free-throw line by rookies Selear and Nikayla Ramsey -- to pull within 34-32 of Colorado College (0-2).

McBain led the Inferno with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and 4-of-4 from the line, while Mikyksa and Selear scored 11 apiece. Ramsey added eight points and a team-high four assists.

Danielle Davis paced the Tigers with game highs of 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Next up for Alverno is Howard Payne University, which lost to Benedictine University, 63-56, in the opening game of the classic. Saturday's tipoff is at 4 p.m. Mountain time.
