Hill Notches 20 and 11 in, 57-51, Loss to Emmanuel

Boston, Mass.-Rhode Island College senior forward Devin Hill (Danielson, CT) notched a game-high 20 points to go along with 11 rebounds as the women's basketball team fell, 57-51, in non-conference action at Emmanuel's Jean Yawkey Center on Thursday night.

 

The Anchorwomen (2-1) struggled from the field in the first half, shooting just 29.0 percent (9-for-31), but a team-high nine rebounds and six points from Hill had the Anchorwomen enter the half with a 21-19 lead over the Saints (1-2). RIC junior guard Alex Moore (West Newbury, MA) added six points and six boards in the stanza with Emmanuel grad student, forward Lena Negri (Arlington, VA), scoring four points and contributing 12 rebounds.

 

A tightly contested third quarter saw the Anchorwomen hold a slim one-point margin heading into the final frame. The Saints outscored the Anchorwomen, 21-14, in the fourth to pick up their first win of the season.

 

Hill's double-double paced the way for RIC, with Moore's 12 points and six rebounds ranking second on the squad. Sophomore guard Jessa Rubera (Newton, MA) swiped a game-high five steals. The Saints were led by Negri's 11 points and 12 boards with senior guard Sarah Higgins (Groveland, MA) scoring a team-best 12 points.

 

RIC shot 31.7 percent (20-for-63) from the floor, 25.0 percent (2-for-8) from three-point range and 69.2 percent (9-for-13) from the charity stripe for the game.

 

Emmanuel shot 40.7 percent (22-for-54) from the field, 33.3 percent (3-for-9) from downtown and 55.6 percent (10-for-18) from the free throw line for the game.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to WPI on Saturday, Nov. 21 (5 p.m.)
