KING'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL OPENS SEASON WITH 56-38 ROAD WIN OVER RAMAPO

MAHWAH, NJ -- Junior forward Kayla Feairheller posted a team-high 19 points and the King's College women's basketball team held host Ramapo College to just 25.4 percent shooting for the game as the Lady Monarchs opened the 2015-16 season with a 56-38 road win Sunday afternoon in Mahwah, NJ.

In the first quarter the teams were tied 8-8 with 5:50 to play when King's closed out the quarter with a 5-0 spurt on a three-pointer from Jennifer Fabian and a driving lay-up from Feairheller to take a 13-8 lead.

In the second quarter, King's used a three-pointer from Kasey Seitz to build a 16-8 lead, before Feairheller drained a trey of her own to give the Lady Monarchs a 19-10 advantage with 6:44 left in the half. Later, a short jumper from Olivia Hoffman pushed the score to 22-12 before King's took its biggest lead of the half when Fabian made one-of-two foul shots to give the Lady Monarchs a 23-12 lead. Ramapo made a late three-pointer to cut the score to 23-15 at the half.

In the third quarter King's came out of the locker room and used a two three-pointers from Fabian and a three-pointer and two free throws by Seitz to open up a 34-17 lead with 6:12 to play in the period.  But Rampo countered with a 15-1 run to cut the King's led to 35-32 heading into the fourth quarter.

But King's countered with a run of its own, thanks to seven points from Feairheller and baskets from Fabian and Tara Zdancewicz to cap a 11-0 spurt to stretch the lead to 46-32  with 5:05 left in the contest. After a Ramapo bucket, King's outscored Ramapo 10-6 the rest of the way to seal the win.

Feairheller made 7-of-14 shots from the field, including a trio of three-pointers, while hauling down seven rebounds. Seitz followed with 13 points, four steals, and three assists while also making three shots from downtown. Fabian tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds while Hoffman contributed two points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. Zdancewicz and Shae Grim chipped in with three points apiece.

Grace Elliott led Ramapo with 12 points and nine rebounds while Kellie Lane added four points and 12 boards.

King's returns to the court Wednesday with a 6:00 p.m. game at Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
