Babson Routs Baruch, 104-60, In Season Opener

BOSTON—Senior Linnett Graber (Roseland, N.J.) led five players in double figures with 20 points to go along with eight rebounds as Babson College cruised to a season-opening 104-60 victory over Baruch College in the opening round of the 32nd Emmanuel College Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Taylor Russell (Braintree, Mass.) finished with career highs of 17 points and nine boards, while sophomore Brenna LeGacy (Attleboro, Mass.) and first-year Elizabeth Lane(Skaneateles, N.Y.) each contributed a career-best 16 points for the Beavers. Senior Kristen Ferola (Amherst, Mass.) added 15 points and eight rebounds.

Junior Kristen Podlovits (Middle Village, N.Y.) scored 15 points, while classmates Symone Green (Albuquerque, N.M) and Veronica Ganzi (Glendale, N.Y.) both added 14 for the Bearcats.

The Green and White jumped out to a 31-15 lead after one quarter and shot 57.4 percent over the opening 20 minutes to build a 62-32 halftime lead. Graber and Ferola combined for 29 first-half points and the Beavers scored 40 points in the paint.

Babson was never threatened in the second half, outscoring Baruch 26-15 in the third quarter and pushing its lead to as many as 47 at 98-51 with 7:32 to play in the fourth.

The Beavers shot 50.6 percent (44-for-87) for the game and held a 56-35 edge on the glass. The Green and White also scored 31 points off of turnovers and outscored the Bearcats' bench 58-4.

Baruch shot just 36.1 percent (26-for-72) on the afternoon and committed 23 turnovers.

Babson returns to action on Sunday when it faces either Emmanuel or Salve Regina in the championship game at 3 p.m., while the Bearcats will take part in the consolation game at 1 p.m.

• Saturday's game against Baruch was the first in school history for the Beavers.
• Babson's 104 points are the most since scoring 105 against Rivier in 1998, and are the second most in program history.
• The Green and White has now won its season opener in five of the last six seasons.
