SEWANEE, Tenn. (Nov. 14, 2015) – After making 54.7 percent of their attempts, Emory & Henry defeated the Sewanee women's basketball team, 71-64, Saturday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.

Neither team got off to a fast start. E&H led 4-3 with 6:07 left in the opening quarter. A layup by Chloe Harris sparked a 10-3 run by the Wasps midway in the first. Rebecca Lobach's jumper with 2:27 left helped Sewanee use a run of its own to over the next minute. During that stretch, Haley McDonough and Jamie Chauvin both scored.

With Emory & Henry ahead 17-13 at the end of the first, the Wasps took advantage of a tough second quarter for Sewanee. The Tigers made only 11 percent of their attempts in the second quarter, which helped Emory & Henry extend its lead to 16, 34-18, by halftime.

The Tiger deficit remained around that mark until the fourth quarter. Behind five threes, Sewanee pulled to within 10, 65-55, with 2:42 to play. After Harris made one of two free throws for Emory & Henry, freshman Corey Caulder connected on a three with 2:15 to play.

Unfortunately, every time it looked like Sewanee would close the gap to a single possession, E&H answered with a clutch shot. In fact, Sewanee pulled to within six, 70-64, with under a minute to play when Chauvin completed an old fashion three-point play.

However, a Cox free throw, and turnover by Sewanee, stopped the comeback for the Tigers.

Overall, Sewanee struggled from the floor. The Tigers shot 33.3 percent for the game, which included a 30.6 percentage from outside the three-point arc.

Individually, Chauvin led four players in double figures with 17 points. Caulder finished with 14 points while Sue Kim added 12. Finally, Savannah Rose finished with 10.

Sewanee quickly returns to action with a 1:00 p.m. game, Sunday, against Wesleyan.
