ANGOLA, Ind.-- Trine held on to fourth-place in the MIAA with a 66-56 victory over Alma in MIAA-action Wednesday night in Hershey Hall.

The Thunder used an 18-4 run through the middle part of the first half to seize control and never trailed the rest of the way. Whitney Shaffer (Tipton, Ind./Tri-Central) topped 20 points for the second-consecutive game, scoring 21 points on a 7-of-12 shooting effort. Shaffer knocked down three treys, giving her 55 on the season- tied for the fifth-most in a season in team history. Raeanna Zink scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Scots with a double-double. Trine improved to 15-9 overall and 9-6 in the MIAA. Alma fell to 7-17 overall, 2-13 in MIAA play.

The win gives the Thunder its most wins in a season since joining NCAA Division III in 2003. The nine wins in conference play are tied for the team's highest total since joining the MIAA the same year.

Trine's first half surge spanned a little over nine minutes and saw the Thunder turn an 8-6 deficit into a comfortable 24-12 advantage. Dunn and Shaffer combined for 11 points during that stretch. The Scots cut the Trine lead back to single-digits, but a three-point play by Henselmeier with a tenth of a second on the clock pushed the halftime lead to 30-20.

Alma kept the game close the rest of the way as the Thunder lead never got higher than 13. The Scots closed to six on several occasions, but Trine was able to stop the threats and close out the victory.

Kelsey Henselmeier (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) added 15 points for Trine. Kayla Dunn (Columbia City, Ind./Columbia City) notched 13 points on a 5-of-7 effort from the floor. The Thunder shot 53 percent (25-of-47) on the night as a team. Trine forced the Scots into 24 turnovers, converting those miscues into 18 points.

Lauren Higgins added 13 points for Alma. The Scots shot 40 percent from the field (20-of-50).
