HAVERFORD, Pa. – Trailing by seven points in the second period, Haverford College mounted a 22-4 run to race past visiting Gettysburg College and help the Fords seal a 70-56 victory in Centennial Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon.

Despite the loss, Gettysburg (15-7, 9-7 CC) clinched a spot in the Centennial Conference playoffs. The Bullets are the fifth seed currently and trail fourth-seeded Johns Hopkins University (14-8, 11-5 CC) by two games with two contests left on the schedule.

Junior Jessica Porter (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion) tied a personal best with 28 points for Gettysburg (15-7, 9-7 CC). She finished 11-of-19 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free throw line, while adding nine rebounds. Outside of Porter, the rest of the Bullets combined to shoot just 10-of-40 (25 percent) for the game.

Four players reached double-figures for Haverford (14-9, 12-4 CC) with Olivia Walsh setting a career high with 15 points. Samantha Wetzel added 12 points and nine rebounds off the bench, while Elizabeth Lynch and Jacquelyne Pizzuto tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Gettysburg only trailed for 21 seconds in the opening frame. After Haverford took a 7-6 lead on a three-pointer by Lynch, a three-pointer by senior Jenna Swope (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) kicked off a 12-2 run. A bucket by freshman Emily Gibbons (Annapolis, Md./Severn Park) made it 18-9 with 8:59 to play in the stanza.

The Fords sliced a 10-point deficit down to four with a quick six-point run over the final 1:46 of the first period. The hosts trailed 28-24 at the break.

The Bullets led 36-29 following a three-pointer by Jamie Relin (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) with 18:04 remaining. That's when Haverford made its move with only a pair of buckets by Porter interrupting a nine-minute run. A lay-up by Wetzel put the Fords ahead 51-40 with just over nine minutes left.

Gettysburg was unable to slice the deficit to less than eight over the remaining time.

Haverford shot 39.3 percent (22-of-56) from the floor, marking the highest shooting percentage against Gettysburg this season. The Fords dished out 21 assists against just six turnovers and out-rebounded the Bullets 40-38.

Swope and Relin each finished with six points for Gettysburg. Swope added five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Gibbons grabbed eight rebounds.
