UMHB women roll over Ozarks on Senior Day

Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team jumped out to an early double-digit lead and never looked back as the Cru rolled to an 85-57 victory over the University of the Ozarks Saturday afternoon in Belton. UMHB improves to 12-11 overall and 8-10 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Eagles to 10-14 overall and 6-13 in ASC play on the year.

 

Ozarks scored first, but Taylor Tucker answered with a basket for the Cu and UMHB went on a 16-6 run from there to open up a double-digit lead. That lead would grow to as many as 15 points in the first half before UMHB settled for a 37-24 lead at the break. The Eagles closed to within eight points early in the second half before the Cru answered once again. UMHB led by at least 10 points for the final 16:15 of the game.

 

Tucker topped the Cru with 23 points and she added eight rebounds. Alyssa Dean had 12 points for UMHB and 13 players scored in a balanced attack. The Cru shot 40 percent from the field and 43 percent from three-point range. UMHB also out rebounded the Eagles 57-45 in the victory.

 

Ashley Hipps led Ozarks with 17 points and Jordana Andrews had 12 more. The Eagles shot just 25 percent from the field as a team and went 3-24 from beyond the arc in the loss.

 

Saturday's game closes out the home schedule for the UMHB women. It was also the final home game in the careers of Cru seniors Alisha Mosley, Macy Moore, Taylor Tucker and Alyssa Dean. The UMHB women will now close out the regular season with a pair of crucial ASC road games next week. The Cru will take on U.T.-Dallas in a 5:30 PM start next Thursday in Richardson before closing out the week with a 1:00 PM tip-off at Hardin-Simmons University next Saturday in Abilene.
