William Paterson Women’s Basketball Gets Crucial NJAC Win at Kean, 64-56

UNION, N.J – Junior guard Brittany Harden (Millville, N.J./Sacred Heart) paced the Pioneers with 19 points as the William Paterson women's basketball team (13-10, 9-7 NJAC) earned a win crucial to its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament hopes, 64-56 at Kean (12-11, 7-9 NJAC), Feb. 11.

 

A win in either of WP's two remaining regular-season games will lock up an NJAC Tournament bid for the Pioneers.

 

Harden added nine rebounds, while freshman guard Jackie Rodriguez (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) scored 13 tallies. Junior guard Sara Luberto (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) had 12 points and junior forward Mary Haines (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) collected a game-best 15 rebounds.

 

WP led by as many as eight (18-10, 10:14 during the opening period, but the Cougars were out in front by a 28-25 count at the intermission. Kean led by as many as eight twice during the first nine minutes of the second half, but the Pioneers erased the advantage with a 19-3 run during a 5:45 span, seizing control at 52-43 with 5:10 to play and keeping it at least a two-possession game for the remainder of the contest.

 

Junior forward Jazmine Davis led the Cougars with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals. Sophomore guard Jaquetta Owens added 12 tallies and seven steals.

 

William Paterson will play at The College of New Jersey Saturday, Feb. 14, at 1:00 p.m.
