Harris Double-Double Helps Albright Snap 17-Game Losing Streak at Messiah

Junior Kelecia Harris scored 20 points and collected 13 rebounds and Albright snapped a 17-game losing streak at Messiah with a 74-62 Commonwealth Conference victory over the Falcons on Wednesday in Brubaker Auditorium.

The victory was the Lions first win at Messiah since a 66-65 victory on Feb. 1, 1997, and it also marked head coach Janice Luck's first win at Messiah. Additionally, the Lions victory completed the season sweep of the Falcons for the first time in school history.

Albright, which has already secured a berth in the upcoming Commonwealth Conference Tournament, improved to 16-6 overall and 10-3 in conference play. The Lions, who won for the eighth time in their last 10 games, also tied the school record for most conference wins in a season with 10.

Harris was 8-of-16 from the floor and 4-of-7 from the line to post her 14th double-double of the season. She also added three assists, two blocks and a steal. Albright, which shot 50.0 percent from the floor, also received 16 points, nine assists and six rebounds from freshman guard Jane Joyce. Senior Jessica Venturelli added 10 points and five assists and sophomore Shannon Thomas scored 10 points and handed out five assists.

The Lions recorded a season-high 22 assists and, after committing 93 turnovers in the previous three games, turned the ball over only 20 times.

Messiah, who dropped to 12-11 overall and 8-6 in conference play, was led by Gillian Glackin who had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Kaitlyn Hoff added 14 points, while Jen Fairbanks scored 13 points and Hannah Nichols finished with 11 points.

After Messiah took a 5-4 lead on a three-pointer by Nichols, Albright responded with a 13-0 run.

Harris scored six points during the run and Kadijah Bishop added five points, and Harris capped the run with a pair of free throws giving Albright a 17-5 lead with 13:42 to play in the first half.

Messiah answered with a 10-0 run that cut the Albright lead to 17-15 with 10:31 remaining in the first half. Emily O'Donnell halted the run with a free throw, but Messiah took the lead at 19-18 with 7:59 to play in the half following a layup by Hoff and two free throws by Glackin.

The Lions regained the lead for good at 20-19 when Joyce connected on a jumper with 5:28 to play in the opening half.

After the teams traded baskets, Albright ended the first half on a 13-4 run to take a 35-25 lead at the intermission.

The Lions held a 39-30 lead with 17:33 to play following a jumper by Joyce, but Messiah used a 9-2 run to climb to within 43-41 with 14:55 left in the game.

Harris then scored Albright's next seven points as the Lions stretched the lead to 50-43 with 13:06 to play.

After a basket by Hannah Brown cut the Albright lead to 52-47 the Lions seized control of the game.

Devan Horka ignited a 10-0 Albright run and Bishop capped the run with a jumper that pushed the Lion lead to 62-47 with 9:14 left in the game. Messiah never got the deficit under 10 points for the remainder of the game.
