DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women's basketball team could not overcome 0-for-13 three-point shooting, 25.8 percent shooting in the first half, and 52 points from a pair of Kohawks as their six-game winning streak comes to an end against Central, 70-56, on Saturday afternoon.

Jenna Kotas finished with 22 points and six rebounds and came out firing after scoring 10 of UD's first 12 points in the second half. Facing a 34-21 first half deficit, Kotas and the Spartans (14-7, 8-2 Iowa Conference) battled back from 17 points down at the 13:11 mark to a six-point margin off a Meggie Schmidt layup with 1:50 remaining. It would prove to be the Spartans' final points as Coe (14-7, 7-3 Iowa Conference) cruised to the finish with an 8-0 run to end the game.

The Spartans could not buy a bucket in the first half after shooting 0-for-7 on three-pointers, 5 of 10 on free throws, and 8 of 31 from the field. Even wide open layups danced around the rim and fell into the arms of a waiting Coe defender. Defensively, the Spartans kept the IIAC's second-best three-point shooting team (37.5%) in check after allowing a 2-for-9 performance from downtown.

After shooting lights out at the free throw line in their previous three games, 63 of 67, the Spartans went cold and ended the game 10-for-19 from the charity stripe. It was also the first time all season the Spartans failed to convert at least three-pointers.

Coe's guard-center combo of Mickey Hansche and Megan Hayes flipped the script after scoring a combined 10 points with seven turnovers in their first meeting on January 28. The pair set out to avenge the 77-72 loss after combining for 24 of Coe's 34 first half points. Hansche totaled a game-high 28 points and hit all four of Coe's threes while Hayes finished with 14 points on 7 of 11 shooting and seven rebounds.

Emily Brinker led a strong effort off the bench with nine points and five rebounds in only 10 minutes of play. The Spartan reserves outscored their Kohawk counterparts, 17-8.

The Spartans split their season series with Coe for the third straight season.

UD travels to Simpson (15-6, 5-5 Iowa Conference) this Wednesday for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff. The Storm defeated Central 68-41 on the road Saturday afternoon.
