Women’s Basketball Drops 78-64 Loss to Cortland

BUFFALO, NY – Brittnee Perry (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds, but Buffalo State (10-10, 7-6 SUNYAC) could not get going against Cortland (15-4, 9-3 SUNYAC), losing 78-64 on Friday night at Sports Arena.

Perry led the way offensively for the Bengals, while Hillary Kollar (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) and Ashley Wallace(Lockport, NY/Starpoint) each added 11 points. Keyonte Edwards (Buffalo, NY/O'Hara) chipped in seven points and three steals. Niasha Houpe (Rochester, NY/William Floyd) tallied seven points and seven rebounds.

Cortland jumped out to a 4-0 in the first minute of play and then pushed its lead out to nine points at 15:30. The Bengals managed to chip away at the Red Dragons lead, tying things up with 8:56 left in the first half, but Cortland closed out the first half with a 13-4 run to take a 34-25 lead into halftime.

Buffalo State struggled offensively in the first half, shooting only 26.1 percent from the floor and hitting just 2-of-9 three pointers.

In the second half, the Bengals cut Cortland's lead to just five after Edwards hit two free throws at 16:59. However, the Red Dragons quickly pushed the lead back out to double digits, 46-35, with 15:43 to play. Despite shooting better in the second half, the closest Buffalo State would come to Cortland was eight points with 7:11 left in the game.

The Bengals finished shooting 32.7 percent from the floor, 21.7 percent from long range and 64.3 percent from the free throw line. Cortland went 41.8 percent from the floor, 40 percent from long range and 82.4 percent from the free throw line. The Red Dragons also held a 47-35 advantage in total rebounds.
