Gettysburg Falls at Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Muhlenberg College poured in 41 points in the second half on the way to a 68-53 victory over visiting Gettysburg College in Centennial Conference women's basketball action inside Memorial Hall on Saturday. 

Despite the loss, Gettysburg (14-6, 8-6 CC) maintained a three-game lead over Ursinus College (7-14, 5-9 CC) for the fifth and final conference playoff spot with only four regular-season games remaining. 

Junior Jessica Porter (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion) paced Gettysburg with 16 points, while classmate Kim Ryan (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) canned a quartet of three-pointers on the way to a career-high tying 12 points. Freshman Emily Gibbons (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) added nine points and 10 rebounds for the visitors. 

Leanna Tallamy turned in 17 of her game-high 21 points in the second half for Muhlenberg. Tallamy also grabbed a dozen rebounds and posted five steals. In two meetings with the Bullets, Tallamy averaged 22 points, 11.5 rebounds, and four steals. 

Gettysburg jumped out to the early lead with a three-pointer by Gibbons make it 9-5 just six minutes in. The momentum quickly swung back to the hosts as a three-pointer by Nicole Pepe on the ensuing possession kicked off a 15-2 run. A lay-in by Michelle Poole made it 23-11 with 6:49 left before the half.

The Bullets stormed back with a barrage from long-range. The visitors nailed four three-pointers as part of a 14-0 spurt that put them back in front 25-23 with just over a minute before the break. Muhlenberg went into the locker room with the lead, however, as Laura Gregory converted back-to-back buckets in the final 37 seconds. 

The momentum shift continued with the Mules adding eight more points to the board to start the final frame. A three-pointer by Porter would cut the deficit to 39-32 at 13:02, but Muhlenberg would race away with a 15-3 run to make it 54-35 with 4:38 on the clock. The lead would reach as high as 20 down the stretch. 

Gettysburg only converted 16-of-53 (30.2 percent) attempts from the floor. Muhlenberg finished with a 43-34 advantage on the boards and out-scored the Bullets 32-4 in the paint. 

Gregory finished with 16 points and eight boards, while Pepe turned in 10 points for the Mules. Christina Santone added 11 boards 

Gettysburg travels to Goldfarb Gym to face Johns Hopkins University (14-7, 11-4 CC) on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m.
