Heeren Earns 200th Career Win in Victory over UW-Stout

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 52-36 win over UW-Stout Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall.  The Eagles improve to 9-12 overall and 4-8 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blue Devils drop to 6-15 overall and 4-8 in the conference. 

With the win, head coach Lois Heeren earned her 200th career victory in 16 seasons at UW-L.  The winningest coach in school history, Heeren now has 252 career wins overall.  She has also served as the head coach at Saint Mary's University, Minn. (1993-96) and Truman State University, Mo. (1989-92).

UW-L never trailed in Wednesday's win, racing out to a 9-2 lead. The Blue Devils cut the lead ot 12-6 with 15:59 remaining on a Kyleigh Hebert layup, but the Eagles went on a 12-0 run to lead 24-6 with 6:53 left. UW-L led by as many as 20 points at 32-12 before taking a 32-13 halftime advantage.

UW-Stout cut the deficit to 34-22 with 14:28 left, but UW-L scored the next five points to lead 39-22. The Blue Devils could get no closer than 14 points the rest of the game.

UW-L shot 41.7% from the field, including 33.3% (two-of-six) from three-point range, and 47.6% (10-of-21) at the free throw line.  Rachel Atchison lead the Eagles with a game-high 12 points while Elise DeNoyer finished with 10 points and MaKenzie Miller added nine.  Cameron Chapin finished with seven points and team-high seven rebounds. 

UW-Stout 22.1% from the field, including 11.8% (two-of-17) from three-point range, and 28.6% (four-of-14) at the line.  Katelynne Folkers led the Blue Devils with nine points while Jenna Goldsmith and Hebert each finished with seven. 

UW-L returns to action Saturday, February 7 at UW-Superior at 3 p.m.
