BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team suffered a hard-fought loss to Stevens Tech, 78-63, in the final non-conference game of the season, on Tuesday evening in the APEX Main Gym.

Lehman (14-7) was able to keep the game close throughout the first half. However, in the second stanza, the Ducks (17-2) took control by going on a 24-7 run, in a span of 8:32, to increase their lead to 65-43 with 10:45 remaining in regulation, which put the game out of reach for the Lightning.

In the opening minute of the contest, the Lightning were able to strike quickly as junior guard Jennifer Navarro (Jamaica, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) nailed a three-point basket to put the home team up, 3-0. After the Ducks jumped out to a 10-5 lead, Navarro fed the ball to junior forward Amani Lightbourne (Elmsford, N.Y./Alexander Hamilton), who tallied a shot from beyond the arc to pull Lehman within two, less than four minutes into the game. It was déjà vu for the Lightning as Lightbourne once again received the ball from Navarro and drained a shot from downtown to cut Stevens' lead back to two, with 14:44 remaining in the opening half.

In the first 20 minutes of play, Lehman successfully converted six three-point field goals and shot 55 percent from beyond the arc, to help keep the Lightning in the game. Both teams went into the locker rooms with the Ducks having a 41-34 lead. Just 15 seconds into the second half, junior forward Karrin Walker (New York, N.Y./Richard R. Green) successfully laid the ball up and in to shrink Stevens' lead to 41-36. From that point on, the Ducks changed the momentum of the contest by going on a 24-7 run, to build a 22-point lead, and would go on to earn their 17th win of the season.

Walker scored a game-high 24 points with six rebounds. Lightbourne tallied 21 points and forced four steals. Junior forward Yarmese Jones (Astoria, N.Y./William C. Bryant) had a game-high eight rebounds, while Navarro led all players with eight assists. Junior forward Linda McKeon (Yonkers, N.Y./Moyne C.S.) had three steals.

The Lightning will hit the road on Thursday, for a key CUNY Athletic Conference game at Baruch College. The Bearcats are undefeated in conference play. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
