No. 10 Montclair St. Puts Four in Double Figures as Red Hawks Cruise Past Ramapo, 72-39

Mahwah, NJ – Sophomore forward SAGE BENNETT (Sicklerville, NJ / Winslow) scored 13 points leading four players in double figures as No. 10/11 Montclair State cruised to a fifth straight victory with a 72-39 victory over Ramapo College at the Bradley Center on Saturday afternoon.

Senior forward MELISSA TOBIE (Elizabeth, NJ / Roselle Catholic) stretched her double-double streak to six games scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds helping the Red Hawks improve to 19-1 overall, 12-1 in the NJAC with the win as the Red Hawks also swept the season set with the Roadrunners. Montclair recorded a 71-34 win at the Panzer Athletic Center on December 6.

Senior JANITZA AQUINO (Kearny, NJ / Kearny) put MSU up 2-0 off the opening tap and a Tobie three-pointer a minute into the contest gave Montclair a five-point lead, which it maintained through much of the first half.

Ramapo's Jina Crawford connected on a short jumper with 6:45 to play bringing the hosts within 14-10 however Montclair tallied the next seven points. Bennett collected the first four and Tobie's three-point play with 4:09 to go made the score 21-10.

The Red Hawks held Ramapo to just 5-of-24 (21 percent) shooting in the opening period as they led 27-16 at the break.

Montclair State opened the second half with an 18-point blitz widening its lead to 45-16 with just over 16 minutes remaining in the final period. Aquino hit a jumper to start things off and Bennett drained a shot from behind the arc before Aquino's second bucket in the run made the score 34-16. Bennett added two free throws with Tobie scoring on a layup. Freshman TAYLOR HARMON (Saddle Brook, NJ / Saddle Brook) got in on the act with a basket before Tobie's jumper in the paint capped the run.

Aquino and freshman KATIE SIRE (Hazlet, NJ / Raritan) each had 11 points for MSU. Sire pulled down seven rebounds with Bennett grabbing six. Harmon collected nine points along with three steals while sophomore RACHAEL KRAUSS (Farmingdale, NJ / Colts Neck) added eight points off the bench. Freshman KATE TOBIE (Elizabeth, NJ / Roselle Catholic) had four points, six rebounds and six assists for the Red Hawks.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, February 4 as it hosts William Paterson University at the Panzer Athletic Center beginning at 3:00 pm.
