ONEONTA, N.Y. – Sophomore Cassidy Chapko (Valley Falls/Hoosic Valley) hit a driving layup with one second left in overtime to give Cortland a wild 59-57 victory at Oneonta. Cortland improved to 13-3 overall and 7-2 in the SUNYAC, while Oneonta dropped to 10-6 and 5-4.

Cortland gained possession with nine seconds left and game tied at 57 after Oneonta was whistled for traveling while trying to set up a final shot. Chapko dribbled into the frontcourt, beat one defender on a crossover dribble near the top of the key, then used a hesitation move at the right elbow to go past another defender and bank a shot high off the glass for the winning points. Oneonta was unable to get off a final desperation shot from deep in its backcourt.

Junior Brittney Dumas (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds. She bounced back after missing all 12 of her first-half field goal attempts to hit 7-of-15 shots in the second half and overtime. Chapko scored 10 points and recorded three steals and sophomore Danielle Levine (Holbrook/Sachem North) hit both of her 3-point attempts and tallied seven points.

Former Cortland point guard Caysea Cohen led Oneonta with 20 points, four assists and three steals and was second on the team with nine rebounds. She connected on 5-of-9 3-pointers, including two in the last 1:05 of regulation to fuel a rally by the hosts. Lyteshia Price totaled 12 points and eight rebounds, Cara Adams scored 10 points and Sarah Longto hauled in a team-best 12 rebounds.

Cortland was held without a field goal for the first eight minutes of the game and eventually trailed by 18 points at 24-6 with four minutes left in the opening half. The Red Dragons fought back and finished the half on an 11-2 run and trailed by nine, 26-17, at halftime.

Cortland continued its run in the first nine minutes of the second half and eventually tied the game at 33-33 on an Erin Wolstenholme (Oneonta) jumper with 11:26 left. Cortland grabbed its first lead on a Dumas jumper with 7:30 left and eventually extended its lead to 47-40 with 4:08 left on a Dumas 3-point play.

The score remained 47-40 until Cohen hit a 3-pointer with 1:05 left, and another Cohen trey with 27 seconds remaining brought Oneonta within one at 47-46. After nearly turning the ball over, Cortland was eventually fouled and Levine made one free throw with nine seconds left to put Cortland up by two.

Price missed a potential tying 3-pointer with about three seconds left, but Bryn Loomis grabbed the rebound, hit a layup and was fouled with one second left to tie the game. She missed the ensuing free throw, however, and the game went to overtime.

Oneonta led 55-53 with 2:08 left in overtime after a Caitlin Cariseo jumper, but Dumas tied the game with a baseline jumper at the 1:46 mark. Oneonta went up on a Cohen free throw and extended the lead to two on a Price foul shot with 50 seconds remaining. Chapko got fouled with 19 seconds left, on Cohen's fifth foul, and she sank both free throws to tie the game at 57-57 and set up the final dramatics.

After shooting just 18 percent in the first half, Cortland hit on 50 percent of its second-half shots and was 3-of-7 in overtime to finish at 33 percent. Oneonta shot 34 percent from the field and was 9-of-27 from 3-point range. The hosts outrebounded Cortland 53-36, with a 20-14 margin on the offensive glass.
