WESTMINSTER, Md. – Gettysburg trimmed a 14-point deficit down to three midway through the second half at McDaniel College, but the hosts held the Bullets to just a pair of field goals over the final nine minutes to wrap up a 53-38 victory in Centennial Conference women's hoops action Wednesday night.

Gettysburg (10-5, 5-5 CC) suffered its fifth-straight loss, while McDaniel (14-1, 8-1 CCO) earned its fifth win in a row and remained tied with Haverford College (10-6, 8-1 CC) atop the conference standings. Green Terror coach Becky Martin also became just the 26th Division III coach to reach 500 career wins.

Freshman Emily Gibbons (Annapolis, Md./Severn Park) reached double-figures for the third consecutive game by scoring 15 of her 18 points in the second half.

Lindsay Nichols led McDaniel with 19 points, while Alyssa March added 15 points and seven boards.

Despite a 45-36 advantage on the glass and a school-record tying 13 blocked shots, Gettysburg was plagued by turnovers. The Bullets tied a season high with 23 turnovers in the contest, including a dozen in the first half as McDaniel went into the break with a 25-16 lead.

The Green Terror scored three of the first four buckets of the final stanza with a three-pointer by Steph Perez making it 32-18 at 15:22. That's when Gibbons took the game over, scoring 11 points during a 13-2 run to pull her team within three (34-31) with nine minutes left in the game.

The spark didn't last long with McDaniel turning in seven straight-points to regain a double-figure advantage. Junior Jessica Porter (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion) knocked down a three-pointer to make it 41-34 at 6:23, but that would be the visitor's final field goal until a lay-up by Gibbons with 19 seconds left.

Gettysburg connected on just 15-of-50 field goals (30 percent), while McDaniel was slightly better at 19-of-61 (31.1 percent).

Gibbons finished 6-of-10 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. She also grabbed eight rebounds. Porter finished one shy of a personal best with 13 rebounds. She tied a career mark with five blocked shots and scored seven points.
