CRESSON, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford women's basketball team capped off a perfect 2-0 weekend in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play with a 58-46 victory over the Mount Aloysius Mounties on Sunday.
Freshman Ali Rinfrette led the way with a team-high 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists to finish one rebound shy of yet another double-double. Fellow freshman Brooke Osborne put together a solid outing with a season-high 13 points and five rebounds from her low-post position.
Sophomore Kaserra Owens, fresh off a spectacular performance in yesterday's matinee victory over Penn State Altoona, capped off the top performers with 10 points and two assists.
Pitt-Bradford (8-4, 5-1) entered the contest hot on the trail in the AMCC with three consecutive victories and looked to make it four with a win today. The Panthers did just that against Mount Aloysius (6-6, 3-4) by earning it at the free-throw line.
Pitt-Bradford combined to go 13-of-16 at the stripe, while the Mounties finished just 6-of-14, ultimately making the difference. The Panthers carried a 31-25 advantage into the break at halftime and were outshooting the home team 37.1 percent to just 27.8 percent.
Pitt-Bradford was 80 percent (4-of-5) from the line in the opening period.
The second period held the same advantage for the visitors as the first half did at plus-six. Pitt-Bradford outscored Mount Aloysius 27-21 to maintain a strong lead and hold on in the end to cap off its fourth-straight win, all in AMCC play.
"We accomplished our goal of going 2-0 this weekend," said head coach Patrick Daniel. "We did just enough today to win a tough game. Brooke Osborne played great. She battled all day in the post and hit some big shots and free throws."
The Panthers finished the game shooting 34.9 percent, including 33.3 percent from three. The Mounties were just 29.5 percent from the field, including 22.2 percent from behind the arc.
Pitt-Bradford earns a short recess before resuming conference action on Wednesday, Jan. 14. The Panthers face D'Youville at 6 p.m. in Buffalo, N.Y.
