Women’s Basketball Takes Knights Down to the Wire Behind Fulton Double-Double

Newburgh, NY – The SUNY Canton women's basketball team held a lead with under three minutes remaining but some key plays down the wire gave host Mount Saint Mary a 57-54 victory on Wednesday evening.
 
The Roos led 53-48 after a Kim McCarthy (Ludlow, MA) lay-in with 4:51 remaining. Lauren Romao knocked down a three-pointer followed by a hoop inside to put the Knights up 55-53 with 1:25 to play. She then split a pair of free throws to keep the contest at a one-possession game.
 
SUNY Canton (0-9) missed a pair of free throws but McCarthy pulled down the ensuing offensive rebound and split a pair at the line to get the Roos within two. Marisa Delzio went 1-for-2 at the line with five seconds left but SUNY Canton was unable to get off a three-pointer for the tie in the closing seconds.

Caseylynn Fulton led all players with 15 points and 15 rebounds on Wednesday.

The two teams had five ties in the opening 7:30 of the game before the Knights (4-7) opened up a six-point lead with 7:16 to play, the largest lead for either team in the game. However, the Roos battled back to tie it and trailed by just three at 28-25 at intermission.
 
CaseyLynn Fulton (Saint Cloud, MN) led all players with 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Tatiana Laroche (Elmont, NY) added 10 points and nine rebounds. Taylor Saltus (Clintonville, NY) was effective finishing with 15 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Logan Tallman (Heuvelton, NY) posted seven points on 3-for-6 shooting.
 
Delzio (14) and Romao (11) were the lone scorers in double figures for Mount Saint Mary. SUNY Canton held the edge in points in the paint (26-12) and fast break points (8-0), while the Knights had the upper hand in points off turnovers (18-7) and second chance points (18-7).
