LYNCHBURG, Va. -- A pair of triples from Virginia Wesleyan College seniors Brittany Glasco and Kerri Taylor in the first four minutes of Saturday's basketball game at Randolph College indicated what was to come for the visiting Marlins.

While numerous visiting teams have found it tough to find a shooting range in Randolph's RAD Center, Virginia Wesleyan warmed up to its surroundings quickly in the first half to fire in 8-of-13 three-point attempts en route to a 40-16 halftime lead over the host WildCats.

VWC did not match its long-range success in the second half, hitting just one triple, but the Marlins had enough offense to move on to a 56-38 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory.  The win improved VWC's league mark to 3-1 and its overall record to 9-4, while the outcome snapped a program-record eight-game winning streak for Randolph.  The WildCats are now 11-2 overall and 2-2 in the league.

Virginia Wesleyan shot 52% from the field in the first half, including a torrid 61.5% from three-point range, to take control of the game. Taylor (Stockport, England/Pottstown, Pa. Hill School) led the Marlins' long-range shooting in the half hitting 3-of-4 attempts, while senior Andrea Paphites (Virginia Beach/Princess Anne) and sophomore Crystal Strother (Accokeek, Md./Brandywine) both hit 2-of-3.

Randolph, which played without leading scorer Abigail Bullins (Asheboro, N.C./Asheboro) for the third straight game due to injury, led 1-0 after a free throw by Chelsea Tyler (Richmond/Henrico) in the first 30 seconds. Paphites answered shortly thereafter with a jumper to give VWC the lead which is never lost.  The Marlins outscored the 'Cats 12-2 in the first four minutes and never looked back.

VWC hit just 1-of-11 triple attempts in the second half, but Paphites put it through to give the Marlins their largest lead of the game at 51-22 with 8:22 remaining to be played.

Virginia Wesleyan head coach Stephany Dunmyer utilized her entire bench as 15 Marlins recorded time on the court. Paphites emerged as the game's only double-figure scorer as she hit for 16 points. She connected on 6-of-9 shots overall, including 3-of-6 triples.

Taylor finished with nine points and a game-high seven rebounds and six assists for the Marlins, followed by Glasco (Fredericksburg/Massaponax) and Strother with seven points each.

Brie Holdren (Bedford/Staunton River) led Randolph with nine points. Tyler finished with seven points and four steals, and Alexis Calloway (Williamsburg/Bruton) led the WildCats on the backboards with seven rebounds.

Virginia Wesleyan competes again on Tuesday, Jan. 13, in ODAC competition at Randolph-Macon College at 7 p.m.
