ALBION, Mich. – Darian Payne scored the last of her 20 points on a basket with 13 seconds left in overtime to lift Albion College to a 67-65 victory over Adrian College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball action.

"We were trying to get a two-man game with Darian and Mikaela Bromley," Albion Coach Doreen Carden said of the Britons' final possession. "Adrian sagged to take away the roll, and Darian happened to be the person at the top (of the key).

"This is a much-needed win for us," Carden added. "We gave a great effort."

Albion led most of the way, though it was unable to deliver the knockout punch.

Erin Nelson scored five points – on a jumper and an old-fashioned three-point play – as the Britons opened a 37-28 lead with 15 minutes left in regulation. Adrian responded by scoring the next eight points and neither team led by more than four the rest of the way.

Briton Notes

It was Payne's third 20-point game of the season. She connected on 10-of-15 shots from the field as she shot at least 50 percent from the field for the fifth time this season.

Four Albion starters scored in double figures. Erin Nelson produced her fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Oreyana Curry and Bromley added 14 and 10 points, respectively.
