OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - The Lehman College women's basketball team continued its winning ways, by defeating the College at Old Westbury, 74-58, out on Long Island, on Tuesday evening. The Lightning have now won five games in a row, and 10 of the last 11.

Sophomore guard Amely Del Rosario (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) led the way for the Lightning with a game-high 22 points, to go along with nine assists, six rebounds, six steals, and three blocks.

The Lightning (10-3) trailed throughout the early stages of the first half, but a layup from Del Rosario tied the game at 12, with 13:18 left to play in the opening stanza. A three-point tally from junior forward Karrin Walker (New York, N.Y./Richard R. Green) gave Lehman the lead for good, 15-12. After her three-point shot, Walker scored four more points, on back-to-back layups, to cap off a 10-0 run by the Lightning, and extend their lead to 19-12, halfway through the opening half. Lehman finished the period strong, as a layup by junior guard Jennifer Navarro (Jamaica, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) off a fast break gave the Lightning a 38-26 lead, in the closing seconds of the first half.

In the second half, the Panthers (6-6) battled back and pulled to within six. However, the Lightning's defense came up big when it needed to as junior forward Yarmese Jones (Astoria, N.Y./William C. Bryant) forced a steal and fed the ball to classmate Amani Lightbourne (Elmsford, N.Y./Alexander Hamilton), who went on the fast break and laid it up and in to increase Lehman's lead to 44-36, with 14:50 left to play in regulation. The Lightning were able to build on their lead for the remainder of the contest and ended up winning the game, 74-58.

Lightbourne scored 17 points with eight rebounds. Jones tallied a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, along with five steals. Walker added 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Lightning will return to the friendly confines of the APEX Main Gym for a key CUNY Athletic Conference game with the College of Staten Island, on Friday evening. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
