Inferno Stung By Yellowjackets In Nonconference Finale

MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College ended 2014 and its nonconference slate with a rough 78-45 loss to visiting University of Wisconsin-Superior Tuesday night in Reiman Gymnasium.

After shooting a season-best 52.5 percent from the field on Monday, the Inferno (3-8) was held to just 28.3 percent -- the team's third lowest performance of the season.

Julie Gallegos was the only Alverno player to reach double-figures with 11 points and added a game-high four assists. It was the junior guard's fifth-consecutive game scoring double-figures.

Mollie Mikyska had her streak of double-doubles snapped at three, as the sophomore center was limited to seven points and seven rebounds in the defeat.

Brynn Liljander scored 12 and Sally Linzmeier 10 for UW-Superior (8-3) which won its eighth-straight game after opening the season 0-3.

Allyssa Lindberg snagged a game-high eight rebounds for the Yellowjackets, who outrebounded the Inferno 51-32.

Alverno has just Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play the remainder of the season, and finishes its current three-game homestand versus Edgewood College on Saturday at 7 p.m.
