Mariners Fall in Conference Matchup with Castleton

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy (2-5, 0-3) fell to Castleton (6-1, 3-0) 70-46, on Friday evening inside of Smith Gymnasium in North Atlantic Conference play.

The two teams sat tied at 10-10 until halfway through the first half, when the Spartans started to slowly extend a lead, outscoring the Mariners 26-3 to enter halftime with a 36-13 advantage.

In the second half the Mariners were unable to come back from the early deficit, falling 70-46.

Mary Badeen (Newport, Maine) led all players with 23 points and 10 rebounds to grab her second-straight double-double. Badeen added two assists and two steals for the Mariners. Mackenzie Vosburgh (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) recorded seven points and four rebounds, while Rachael Redles(Coopersburg, Pa.) chipped in with five points and two rebounds off the bench.

The Spartans were led by Jade Desroches who had a team-high 20 points, eight assists, six steals, three rebounds and a block, while Lindsay Sabo added 15 points, and Meghan O'Sullivan recorded 12 points.

Maine Maritime looks to bounce back quickly when they host Green Mountain tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
