BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team used an early 15-0 run to turn a six-point deficit into a nine-point lead, held off an early second-half run by visiting Muhlenberg and led by as many as 20 late in a 63-46 victory at Goldfarb Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Blue Jays' record to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the Centennial Conference, while the Mules slip to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial.

The Mules led 10-4 less than five minutes into the game on the strength of a pair of three-pointers by Nicole Pepe, but Hopkins responded with the 15-point run that gave them the lead for good. Back-to-back layups by Ciara McCullagh jump-started the spree, which was capped by a three-pointer by senior Stacy Fairey with just under nine minutes remaining in the opening half to give the Blue Jays a 19-10 lead.

Hopkins' lead swelled to 15 at 33-18 late the half, but the Mules got four free throws from Pepe to close the half and make it 33-24 at intermission; Muhlenberg opened the second half with a 9-3 spree that sliced the deficit to 36-33 with 14:54 to play.

As quickly as Muhlenberg had cut into the lead, the Blue Jays respond as Hopkins answered the Mules' half-opening run with a 10-0 spurt that gave JHU a double-figure lead that wouldn't be challenged in the final 12 minutes.

Back-to-back layups by senior Maggie Fruehan ignited the 10-point run, which gave the Blue Jays a 46-33 lead. Fruehan scored 10 of her game-high 14 points in the second half, when the Blue Jays held a lead of at least 13 and as many as 20 over the final 10 minutes.

In addition toe Fruehan, who hit 7-of-9 from the floor and added eight rebounds to her 14-point effort, Hopkins got 11 points from Fairey and 10 points and five rebounds from junior Beatriz Williams.

Pepe scored 15 of her game-high 19 points in the first half and Leanna Tallamy added 10 points and 10 rebounds, but the Mules shot just 28% from the floor (14-of-50) and were outrebounded 39-31 in falling to Johns Hopkins for the seventh time in the last 11 meetings.
