Frasier Records Double-Double, Dumas Hits 1,000-Point Mark as Red Dragons Beat Bengals

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Rae Frasier (Schenectady) recorded career highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds and junior Brittney Dumas (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) scored 17 points to reach the career 1,000-point mark as Cortland defeated Buffalo State, 87-67, to start SUNYAC play.

The Red Dragons improved to 5-1 overall, while Buffalo State is now 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the league.

Frasier came off the bench to play 21 minutes and hit 10-of-14 shots from the field along with both of her free throws. Six of her 11 rebounds came on the offensive glass, and she also blocked two shots.

Dumas connected on 8-of-13 field goals and pulled down six rebounds. She reached the 1,000-point plateau for her collegiate career when she nailed a 3-pointer 40 seconds into the second half for her 15th point of the game. Dumas has scored 1,002 points between Hartwick College (895 from 2012-14) and Cortland (107 in six games this season).

Also for the Red Dragons, sophomore Cassidy Chapko (Valley Falls/Hoosic Valley) and senior Erin Wolstenholme (Oneonta) each scored 12 points and senior Lindsey Minor (Wheatley Heights/St. John the Baptist) finished with seven points and a game-high seven assists. Chapko and freshman Kerry McHugh (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) each dished out three assists and senior Brittany Rando (Owego/Owego Free Academy) registered four of Cortland's seven steals.

Olivia Luciani led Buffalo State with 19 points. She made 7-of-10 shots, including 5-of-8 from the 3-point arc. Ashley Wallace added 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds and Brittnee Perry scored eight points.

Cortland shot 59 percent from the field overall and 50 percent (6-of-12) from 3-point range. The Red Dragons hit 64 percent of their shots (14-of-22) in the second half. Cortland held the Bengals to 37 percent shooting from the floor and 29 percent (6-of-21) from long distance.

The hosts went on a 17-4 run midway through the first half to extend a 19-15 lead to 36-19. Wolstenholme scored seven points and Frasier four during that stretch. Late in the half, Frasier hit two layups to give Cortland a 20-point lead, and the Red Dragons led 48-31 at halftime. Cortland was never seriously threatened in the second half as its lead ranged from 14 to 25 points over the period.

Cortland will host Fredonia Saturday at 4 p.m.
