RAMAPO DROPS CENTENARY, 78-69 IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team improved to 3-0 overall tonight as they defeated Centenary College, 78-69 in a non-conference match-up at the Bradley Center.  With the loss, Centenary falls to 1-2 on the year. 
 
The Roadrunners led the entire length of the game after jumping out to a double-digit, 10-0 lead under four minutes in with a three-point goal from Jackie Jerkovich, forcing a Centenary timeout.  Out of the timeout, Centenary connected five straight points to close the gap to 8-13, but it wasn't enough as the Roadrunners climbed to a 15-point advantage with 6:38 to go in the half, capped off with an and-one play from Jerkovich.  Ramapo closed out the half leading by 14, 41-27, after a jump shot from Centenary's Kelsey Barofski fell through at the buzzer.
 
Ramapo shot a combined 14-26 (54%) in the first 20 minutes of play, behind 14 points from Jina Crawford.  Jerkovich collected eight points and dished out a team high five assists and three steals.  Centenary was led by Mallory George who netted seven points as the team shot 12-35 (34%) from the field.
 
Centenary opened the second half on fire sparking their offensive game to come within two, 39-41, after a three-point goal from Rachel Edwards sparked a 9-0 run, which was capped off by George.  Ramapo responded with a mini 5-0 run to lead by seven with 14:20 to play, but Centenary cut it back to one, 50-51, at 11:34 with another basket from George.  Over the next three plus minutes, the two teams traded baskets, until two free throws from Kellie Lane with 8:54 on the clock, sparked a 5-0 Ramapo run to put the Roadrunners ahead, 64-56 with just over seven minutes to play.  The closest Centenary would come was within five points when a three-point basket from Edwards at 4:41 fell through.  Ramapo spread their lead down the stretch to take home the 78-69 non-conference win at home.
 
Jerkovich and Bintou Berete led Ramapo with nine points each in the half as the team combined hitting 10-24 (42%) from the field.  George collected 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds leading Centenary in the second half.  The team went 16-41 (39%) in the final 20 minutes of play.
 
The Roadrunners had four players in double-digit figures as Jerkovich led the team with 17 points.  Crawford and Kellie Lane each landed 14 points and Berete netted 13.  Jerkovich led in assists with seven and steals with three, and Berete led in rebounds with nine.  The Roadrunners hit 24-50 (48%) as a team.
 
George recorded a double-double with 23 points and 18 rebounds, while Edwards sank 11 and Taylor Pryslak ten.  Centenary shot 37% in the loss sinking 28 field goals on 76 attempts.
 
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, November 22nd when they open the NJAC season with a 1pm tip-off against Rowan University at the Bradley Center.
