DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley College women's basketball team used a 21-3, second-half run to pull away to a 73-59 triumph over visiting non-conference opponent Alvernia University.

 

The win improved the Aggies to 2-3 on the year and they will be off for eight days before opening Freedom Conference play at King's College on Wednesday, December 3. Tuesday's loss dropped the Crusaders to an even 2-2.

 

Delaware Valley opened up a 10-3 lead early in the first half behind three points each from Eireann Anastasi and Brenna Coll. From there, Alvernia scored 10 of the next 12 points, including three layups from Logan Focht, for the Crusaders' first lead of the game at 13-12 with 10:16 on the clock. 

 

The Aggies quickly regained the lead on the ensuing possession when Brittany Wood grabbed an offensive rebound and kicked it out to Kelsey Kilpatrick who buried a three. That sparked an 8-1 run by Delaware Valley that extended its lead to 20-14 with just over six minutes to play in the half.  The Aggies finished the stanza with a trey from Wood and a Coll layup as they took a 33-26 advantage into the break.

 

Coll had 13 points in the half as Delaware Valley held a 9-0 advantage in points off turnovers and a 6-0 advantage in second-chance baskets.

 

In the second half, Alvernia found itself trailing by just three, 41-38, after Mya Lobb hit a jumper with 10:17 left on the clock. From there, it was all Aggies starting with 11 straight points, including seven by Anastasi. They eventually scored 21 of 24 points in a six-minute, 20-second span with Coll adding seven in the run, for a 62-41 lead. The Aggies continued to capitalize on turnovers as they scored 15 points in the second half off of Alvernia miscues, en route to the 73-59 victory.

 

For the game, Coll led all players as the senior scored 26 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the field and an 11-for-12 effort from the free throw line.  She also contributed with six rebounds, two assists and two steals in 32 minutes of action. 

 

Anastasi recorded 18 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals while Barlow and Wood each had eight boards. Kilpatrick added seven points in the win.

 

Alvernia was led by Tyra Roberts and her 13 points and 10 rebounds. Focht finished with 12 points and two boards of the bench and Kaitlyn Yoh recorded eight points, eight boards and four assists.
