Hornet Women's Basketball Scores 79-55 Win over Meredith

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team won a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon 79-55 against Meredith College.

The Hornets scored on their first possession and never looked back to take the win in their first home game of the season.  With the help of a 10-2 run midway through the first half, LC went into halftime with a 12 point lead, 29-17.

Both teams got more comfortable in the second half and they each found some hot shooting.  Lynchburg scored 50 points and Meredith scored 38, resulting in a 79-55 final score.  In shooting 57.1 percent from the field and hitting 3-6 three-pointers in the second half, all but one Hornet was able to score throughout the game.

Lynchburg's zone defense was effective as they forced their opponents to shoot only 17.6 percent on 3-17 shooting from beyond the arc and keep the ball out of the paint.

Shannon Allan led the way for LC with 19 points on 7-9 shooting and three steals in 23 minutes.  Charmaine Hairston hit three three-pointers in the second half and finished the game with 11 total points.  Chaney Forbush had 11 points and six boards, while Sammi Goldsmith moved the ball around to assist her teammates a game-high five times.  Freshman Caroline Naumann had a team-high seven rebounds for the Hornets.  Lynchburg shot 51 percent from the field overall.

Kim Hinton led the way for the Angels (0-3) with nine points and seven rebounds in 38 minutes.

The Hornets (3-1) look to extend their three-game winning streak next Sunday, November 30, when they visit Christopher Newport University at 4 p.m.
