The Buena Vista women's basketball team got a balanced scoring attack and took advantage of 40 Bethany Lutheran turnovers on Tuesday night en route to a 91-42 victory over the Vikings in the team's home opener.

BVU, which led wire-to-wire in the contest, scored 50 of its 91 points off the 40 turnovers and got 43 bench points.

Junior Lexi Fisher turned in a game-high 20 points, including 5-of-12 shooting from downtown.  Sophomore Sidney Beckman came off the bench and buried four long range shots and followed with 14 points.  Becca Pennington also turned in 14 points with Shelby Wiederhoeft adding 10 points and seven rebounds.  Lacey Vokt was held scoreless but did dish out a game-high five assists.

As a team, the Beavers shot 42 percent from the field in the contest and made 13-of-40 attempts from beyond the arc.

Back-to-back three-pointers from Fisher put BVU in front 6-0 in the early going before the Vikings came back with three straight points of their own.  That, however, was as close as they got the rest of the way as the Beavers ran off 17 straight points to build a 23-3 lead midway through the first half.

Bethany Lutheran kept it a 14-point contest with seven minutes left but BVU pushed the margin to 42-17 at the break.

It was all Beavers in the second half as BVU built a 56-19 advantage less than four minutes into the period and held a 68-23 lead with 13 minutes to play.  From there, the Beavers held the Vikings to only two points over the next seven minutes while extending the lead to 82-25 with six minutes to go.

The win moves Buena Vista to 3-0 overall, while Bethany Lutheran dips to 0-2.  BVU will return to action on Friday night for a non-conference road contest at the University of St. Thomas at 7:00pm.  The Beavers will follow that game up with a road game at Bethel on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm.
