Brooklyn Drops Opener of Ramapo College Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament

Mahwah, NJ --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team (0-1) fell to Washington College (Maryland) (1-0) in its opening game of the Ramapo College Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Brooklyn will now play St. Joseph's College (Long Island) in the consolation game tomorrow, Sunday, November 16th at 12:00 pm. Washington will play host Ramapo in the championship game at 2:00 pm. Ramapo defeated St. Joseph's, 68-37, in the opening game of the tournament.

The trio of seniors Megan Campbell (15 points), Vanessa D'Ambrosi (15 points) and Nicole Francomano (10 points) combined to score 40 of BC's 49 points in the game. Classmate Asia Foster grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.

Washington was led by a trio of their own, as Carley Kendall scored a team-leading 13 points, while Kelly Sugalski added 12 points. Emily Hubley finished the game with a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Following a jumper from Francomano to open the scoring, Washington rattled off a 10-0 run to take an eight-point lead, 10-2, with 14:30 left in the opening half.

The Shorewomen would never trail the rest of the first half as Washington would go on to take an 11-point halftime lead, 30-19. The Bulldogs would get to within one, 19-18, on a jumper from Francomano at the 5:15 mark; however, Washington would outscore Brooklyn 11-1 to close out the opening period.

BC struggled in the first half shooting just 26.7% (8-for-30) from the field, while Washington shot 46.2% (12-for-26) in the half.

The Bulldogs would not go down without a fight in the second half, as Brooklyn would chip away at its deficit and eventually retake the lead on a jumper from senior Jaclyn Grasso to five BC a 40-39 lead with 7:44 left on the clock.

A three-point play from Campbell would later give the Bulldogs its largest lead of the game at six, 47-41, with 5:36 remaining before the final buzzer.

However, the Shorewomen would answer with a 12-0 run to turn the tables and retake the lead to go ahead by six, 53-47, with 1:37 left. The Bulldogs would be unable to recover, as Washington would go on to take the 59-49 victory.

Brooklyn controlled the glass, outrebounding Washington 43-35, including a 21-9 advantage in offensive rebounds.
