The New York University women's basketball team defeated Plattsburgh State University 86-70 to claim the 2014 NYU Tip-Off Tournament title on Sunday afternoon, November 16, at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

The Violets (2-0) have now won two straight Tip-Off titles, and 11 of 12 overall. NYU now has two victories over Plattsburgh State (1-1) in the all-time series, with the first coming during the 2010 Tip-Off Tournament.

NYU was led by Tournament MVP Megan Dawe, who scored a team-high 19 points in just 14 minutes due to foul trouble. The junior co-captain's performance followed her 20-point display against Western Connecticut State University on Saturday.

"Megan is easy to coach; she's composed, she's focused -- whether she's on the bench or in the game -- and she just wants to win," said NYU Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory. "To be able to come into the game and make that big of an impact immediately just shows the trust her teammates have in her, as well as her composure."

Dawe is joined on the All-Tournament team by fellow Violets Amy Harioka and Kaitlyn Read. Harioka poured in a career-best 15 points vs. the Cardinals, while also pulling down four rebounds, dishing out three assists and grabbing a steal. Read finished with her fourth-career double-double, scoring 13 points along with a game-high 11 rebounds. The sophomore also added game highs in assists (5) and steals (4) in the win.

"I hoped that early on in the season we'd find out what the personality of our team was," said Hall-Gregory. "What's starting to happen now is different people are able to step up in different moments when we need it."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Overall, five Violets scored in double-figures on Sunday.

- Drew Cabral registerd 10 points, three rebounds, three steals, and two assists in her second-career game.

- Emily Rowe narrowly missed out on her first-career double-double, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds. She added three assists and a block, as well.

- Maya Wasowicz finished with eight points, going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.

- Melissa Peng dished out four assists to go along with seven points, four rebounds and three steals.

- Rounding out the All-Tournament Team was Allie Taylor of the Cardinals, Carolina Brasa from Western Connecticut State and Kelsey Livoti from Juniata College.

The Violets will be back in action on Wednesday night, November 19, when they host the College of Staten Island at Coles for a 7:00 pm tip-off. Live stats and live video will be available.
