Plattsburgh Drops Buffalo State to Capture SUNYAC Regular-Season Title, 94-68

PLATTSBURGH, NY—Buffalo State (19-6/14-4) surrendered a season-worst 94 points as host Plattsburgh (20-5/15-3) clinched the SUNYAC regular-season title with a 94-68 victory in the regular-season finale today at Memorial Hall.

Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) paced Buffalo State with 24 points.  Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Ashley Wallace (Lockport/Starpoint) finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds. 

Plattsburgh took a lead it would never relinquish midway through the first half, using a 15-0 run late in the opening period to take a 48-33 lead into the intermission.  The Cardinals also took advantage of a 12-6 discrepancy in fouls to score 15 first-half points at the free-throw line.  Plattsburgh never looked back and continued to pull away in the second half. 

The foul count for the game ended at 25-10 in favor of Plattsburgh, and the Cardinals outscored the Bengals 28-10 at the charity stripe.  Plattsburgh shot 49-percent from the field for the game, compared to 39-percent by Buffalo State. 

Buffalo State will enter the SUNYAC playoffs as the No. 2 seed and will receive a bye into next Friday's semifinals at Plattsburgh.  The Bengals will face the winner of No. 3 Geneseo and No. 8 Fredonia at 6 p.m.
