Smith, Medley Each Pour in 20+ As NJCU Wraps Up 2013-14 With Dominant 73-55 Road Win

CAMDEN, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com| Seven-time New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week BRIA SMITH (Bayonne, NJ/St. Dominic Academy) notched her fourth 20+ scoring effort of the season and second in a row while notching her 10th double-double of the season and junior guard JADE MEDLEY (Queens, NJ/Hudson Catholic) poured in a career-high 20 points as New Jersey City University pulled away from Rutgers-Camden for a dominant 73-55 road NJAC win on February 19.
 
NJCU closes the 2013-14 season on a high note, outscoring the Scarlet Raptors 46-20 in the second half after trailing by eight (35-27) at halftime. NJCU ends its 44th season of women's basketball with a 9-16 ledger and 6-12 in the NJAC—its most overall wins since the 2006-07 season (10-15) and its most victories in the league since the 1998-99 campaign (8-10).

 
Smith and Medley became the first pair of NJCU players to score 20 points in the same game since February 11, 2009. The two were dominant in the second half; Medley notched 12 points on 3-of-4 in the period (5-5 FT) while Smith had a near double-double in the second half alone—11 points and nine rebounds.
 
Smith shot 7-of-14 from the field and 7-of-9 from the line for 21 points, grabbed 13 rebounds (eight defensive), while adding three assists, three steals and two blocks in 32 minutes.
 
Medley was two points better than her previous scoring high achieved in the first meeting with Camden (5-19, 0-18 NJAC), scoring 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting and 5-of-5 free throw accuracy while knocking down 3-of-6 from three-point distance. She added three blocks and three steals in 19 reserve minutes.
