Cavaliers Close Regular Season with Senior Night Win

More news about: Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team sent its four senior out on a high note tonight as the Cavaliers scored an 80-49 win over the visiting Keystone College Giants.  With the victory, the Cavaliers closed the regular season with a 21-4 record, including 15-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

Prior to tonight's game, the team celebrated the careers of its seniors, Maggie McElroy, Annie Rivituso, Brittany Sandone and Colleen Stewart.  The four ladies were an integral part of turning the program around.  After winning just 10 games as freshmen, the ladies helped turn the program into a conference champion with back to back 20-win campaigns.

The seniors led the way from the opening minutes as Sandone's three pointer four minute into the game sent Cabrini on a 14-0 spurt.  Another Sandone triple at the 10:36 mark put the Blue and White up 22-7.  The Cavaliers continued to press the issue as it shot 47.4% from the floor in the first half and 4-7 from three point range.

Junior Amber Keys' 11 point led four players scored at least six point in the opening half as Cabrini went into the break with a47-14 lead.  While its offense was clicking, so was the defense.  Cabrini held Keystone to just 5-31 from the floor and forced eight first half turnovers.

Cabrini showed no let down in the second half as it connected on 46.4% of its field goal attempts.  Megan Decker paced the offense after the break with eight of her 12 points coming in the second stanza.

Keys tallied a team-high 15 points off the bench, while Stewart paired 12 points and 13 rebounds for her first double-double since the first game of the 2012-13 season.  Decker finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Rivituso chipped in with 11 points, four rebound and four assists.

Alyssa Cuomo led Keystone (14-11, 8-8 CSAC) with 17 points.

The Cavaliers will have a few days to rest as they won't return to action until Wednesday's CSAC semifinal round.  By virtue of earning the tournament's top seed, the Blue and White earned a bye into the semifinal.  Cabrini will learn its opponent upon the conclusion of Monday's quarterfinal round.

Monday's games feature Gwynedd Mercy at Marywood and Rosemont at Immaculata.  Cabrini will host the lowest remaining seed in Wednesday's semifinal.  Stay tuned to CabriniAthletics.com for the latest CSAC Tournament information.
