Manhattanville Takes Out Delaware Valley, 76-65

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville women's basketball team ended its three-game skid on Tuesday night, defeating Delaware Valley with efficient shooting en route to a 76-65 win inside Kennedy Gym.

Although Manhattanville (10-14, 5-8 Freedom) came into the game eliminated from Freedom Conference playoff contention, the Valiants still came out ready to play, unloading offensively against the Aggies. Despite the loss, Delaware Valley (15-9, 8-5 Freedom) had already clinched a playoff spot prior to Tuesday night's game.  

Juniors Bri Pabon (Newington, Conn./Newington) and Alyson Caiazzo (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) led the way for Manhattanville by contributing 19 and 16 points, respectively. Caiazzo also grabbed 13 rebounds while dishing out five assists for the Valiants. Sophomores Ashley Franklin (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career) and Ashley Raaf(Rockaway Beach, N.Y./Christ The King) also finished in double-figures, scoring 13 and 11 points in the win over the Aggies.

All of the starters for Delaware Valley finished in double-figures, including a game-high 22 points from Eireann Anastasi. The Aggies relied too much on three-pointers against the stifling Manhattanville defense, finishing 17.2 percent (5-29) from beyond the arc.
 
Both teams came out playing hard in the opening minutes as neither the Valiants nor Aggies could gain the definitive edge in the first 10 minutes of play. At the 11:12 mark in the first half, the Aggies took a one-point lead over the Valiants on a jumper by Brenna Coll, making it 17-16. Manhattanville answered the Coll basket by going on a 12-4 run, taking a 28-21 lead with 3:35 left in the first.
 
Headed into halftime, the Valiants controlled a four-point lead over the Aggies, 30-26.
 
Manhattanville came out firing in the second half, jumping out on a 7-2 run in the opening minutes, taking a 37-28 lead after Pabon knocked down a three-pointer with 16:39 left. Delaware Valley continued stringing together comeback efforts in the second half, but were never able to take a lead.
 
The Valiants led by as many as 14 points in the second half before taking down Delaware Valley inside Kennedy Gym. The win for Manhattanville was an all-around team effort as the Valiants dominated the Aggies for the Freedom Conference victory.
 
Manhattanville finished shooting an impressive 51.9 percent (27-52) from the floor, including a notable 55.6 percent (5-9) mark from beyond the arc. Delaware Valley had issues getting past the tenacious Valiants defense, as the Aggies ended the game shooting 33.8 percent (24-71).
