MENOMONIE (February 15, 2014) - Sami Schoeder (Sr, Durand) didnt have the best night shooting the basketball for the Blue Devils, but she came up big when it mattered most, canning a pair of free throws with just 7.1 seconds remaining to lift Stout to a 60-59 victory over UW-Platteville.

With the Blue Devils (9-14, 5-9 WIAC) trailing 59-58 with time winding down, Schoeder was fouled while driving to the hoop. She calmly hit both of her free throws, giving Stout a 60-59 advantage.

Platteville (12-11, 6-8 WIAC) tried to push the ball up the court and retake the lead, but a layup attempt missed and the Pioneers rebounded the ball out of bounds, surrendering control to Stout with only one second left in the game.

Schoeder finished with 9 points for Stout, but shot just 3-13 from the field and 1-7 from downtown as the Pioneers played a tight game defensively, limiting the Blue Devils to 25.6 percent (10-39) shooting in the second half and 31.5 percent (23-73) for the game.

In the first half, the Blue Devils never trailed, jumping out to a 7-2 lead early on.Three straight makes by the Pioneers around a Haley Froehlich (Jr, Mondovi) three-pointer brought Platteville right back though, making the score 10-9 with 15:15 to go in the half.

Steals and assists by Katelynne Folkers (Jr, Fall Creek) on back-to-back possessions got Stout really rolling, as she found Kyleigh Hebert (So, Spencer) for a three-pointer and a layup to start a 15-6 Blue Devil run.

Hebert finished with a team-high 12 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 3 assists while Folkers added 9 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and zero turnovers for Stout.

The Pioneers would draw close with a 10-2 run of their own, cutting the Blue Devil lead to just two, 27-25, with 4:35 left in the first.

After a pair of Froehlich free throws pushed the lead back to four, the teams would trade baskets the rest of the half. Going into the break, the Blue Devils held a 36-32 advantage.

A 9-2 Platteville run to start the second half found the Blue Devils fall behind for the first time, 41-38, at the 16:22 mark.

The Pioneers would lead for the next 10 minutes, but Stout refused to go away, never trailing by more than six points during that stretch.

Schoeder's only three of the night came at 6:25 and brought the Blue Devils within one, 52-51. On Platteville's next trip down, a missed jumper rebounded by Brea Boomer (Jr, Grand Portage, Minn.) turned into a fast break as she pushed it up to Hebert, who came up with three the old-fashioned way by cashing in an and-one oppurtunity for a 54-52 Stout lead.

A quick 5-2 swing for the Pioneers gave them a 59-56 advantage with 2:46 to go. Neither team would score for nearly two minutes before Hebert's layup with 47 seconds left brought Stout back within one.

Needing a defensive stop, the Blue Devils came up big, forcing an off-balance jumper and rebounding the miss as the shot clock ran out to get the ball back with 14.8 seconds left, setting the stage for Schoeder's game-winning free throws.

Froehlich had 11 points off the bench for the Blue Devils, going 4-8 from the field and 2-2 from the line. Boomer added 7 boards for Stout.

For the Pioneers, Stacy Clark led the way with 17 points while Alyssa Krajco had 14.

With the victory, the Blue Devils swept the season series against Platteville for the first time since the 2010-11 season. Stout turned the ball over only eight times, a season-low for the Blue Devils, while forcing 18 Pioneer turnovers.

Platteville outshot Stout, 37.7 percent (23-61) to 31.5 percent (23-73). The Pioneers also won the rebounding battle, 50-42.

Up next, Stout will host UW-La Crosse at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Johnson Fieldhouse.
