WAYNE, N.J. – Junior center Ashley Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) scored a game-best 17 points and freshman forward Ariana Gomez (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) registered her first double-double with 10 tallies and 11 rebounds as the William Paterson women's basketball team (12-9, 9-5 NJAC) cruised past visiting Rutgers-Newark (9-11, 5-9 NJAC), 72-47, Feb. 6.

 

The Pioneers steadily built a 36-21 halftime lead as junior Marfo matched her previous season best with 13 first-half points. She finished the game 7-for-10 (.700) from the field, adding six rebounds, while senior guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) made six of her eight (.750) attempts en route to 16 tallies and four steals.

 

WP substituted liberally, as all 13 available players saw action during the wire-to-wire win. A 60-41 rebounding margin led to a 28-10 advantage in second-chance points for the Pioneers.

 

Freshman guard Jamie Cejour-Mobley led the Scarlet Raiders with 14 points, classmate Adayshia McKinnon pulled down eight rebounds and sophomore guard Arianna Williams dished out a game-high seven assists.

 

William Paterson will visit New Jersey City Saturday, Feb. 8, at 2:00 p.m.
