Buffalo State Cruises by Cortland for Sixth-Straight Win, 66-49

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (16-3/11-1) jumped out to an early lead and coasted to its sixth-consecutive victory, defeating visiting Cortland (11-8/7-5), 66-49, in a SUNYAC game today at the Sports Arena.

Olivia Luciani (Syracuse/E. Syracuse-Minoa) paced Buffalo State's offense with 16 points, including going 4 of 8 from 3-point range.  Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) added 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists, and Mariah Norris (Endicott/Union-Endicott) chipped in 12 points off the bench.  Ashley Wallace (Lockport/Starpoint) netted nine points and grabbed six rebounds.

Buffalo State took control early and carried a 39-18 lead into halftime, as Cortland was just 5 of 30 (17-percent) from the field.  The Red Dragons cut the deficit to 15 on two occasions in the second half, but never mounted a serious run. 

The game was plagued by 52 personal fouls, including 28 called on the Bengals.  Cortland finished 19 of 28 at the free throw line, and Buffalo State was 14 of 22.  The Bengals shot 43-percent from the field for the game, and limited Cortland to just 14 field goals and just 25-percent shooting. 

Buffalo State will travel to New Paltz for another SUNYAC game next Friday at 6 p.m.
