JOHNSON, Vt. -- Maine Maritime won its fifth-straight game with a 51-35 in a North Atlantic Conference women's basketball game Saturday. The Mariners improved to 9-6 overall, 7-2 NAC, while the Badgers dropped to 4-11, 4-6.
The Mariners enjoyed a balanced scoring attack led by Bekah Campbell's double-double and of a game high 13 points and 11 rebounds. Cheyenne Malloy and Leah Jackson also both chipped in nine points.
The Badgers were paced by Kasey DeGreenia, who filled the stat sheet with seven points, five steals, and five rebounds. Sarah Voorhis chipped in seven points and three rebounds off the bench. Nicole Menard led all Badgers in scoring with eight points.
The Mariners defense took control early in the game by holding the Badgers scoreless for the first six minutes of play. Maine Maritime led by 11 after an Ashley Shine three with 10 minutes left in the half. JSC managed to get with five, 16-11, with five minutes left in the opener. The Mariners went into the break with a 28-14 lead after Malloy led a 12-3 scoring run with six points.
The Badgers scored first to begin the second half on a DeGreenia layup but it was all Maine Maritime the rest of the game. The Mariners held a double-digit advantage the rest of the contest.
Maine Maritime returns to action Tuesday hosting Maine-Presque Isle at 5:30 p.m.
