Elmira College Extends Winning Streak to 10

Abington, PA -- Elmira College women's basketball team (11-2, 4-0 E8) defeated Penn St. – Abington (3-9, 1-5 NEAC) 50-38 on the road today. The Purple and Gold extended their winning streak to 10 today with Jessica Zoltowski '14 leading the Soaring Eagles with 12 points, seven rebounds, three steals and one assist in the victory.
 
Elmira struggled in the first half shooting, only making 18.5% from the floor. The EC women started the game scoring the first four points. Penn St. – Abington responded with a 4-0 run of their own to tie the game up with 14:53 left in the first half. Both teams battled back and forth for the rest of the half as the score was tied three times and the lead changed four times. Neither team held a lead larger than three the entire half.
 
The Nittany Lions held the 16-15 lead going into halftime. EC's 15 points is the lowest the Purple and Gold have scored in a single half this season.
 
The EC women improved their shooting in the second half to 46.4% from the floor. Both teams continued to battle back and forth in the second half and the score was tied three times in the first 3:05 of play in the half. As both teams exchanged buckets for most of the second half, Karli Pochkar '16 drained a jumper at the with 10:37 second left in the game to put the Soaring Eagles into the lead for rest of the game.
 
Pochkar and Alex Balara '15 combined for 19 points, five rebounds, two steals and one block in the win.
 
The Purple and Gold will jump back into Empire 8 Conference play on Friday, January 24th when they travel to St. John Fisher College. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m.
