Immaculata Defeats Keystone 85-78 to Remain Unbeaten in CSAC

Immaculata, PA – Five players reached double-figures on Thursday night to lead Immaculata University to an 85-78 victory over visiting Keystone College in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action at Immaculata's Alumnae Hall.  The Mighty Macs improve to 12-3 overall and now sport a perfect, 7-0 record in conference play while the Giants see their record slip to 11-6 on the season and 5-3 in the CSAC.     
 
In a tightly played opening 20 minutes of play, Keystone took the largest lead of period just under two minutes into the contest at 6-2 when Jazmyn Robinson (Hyattsville, MD/Northwestern) scored on a layup.  The two teams would trade the lead a total of 11 times in the first half with Immaculata taking their largest lead of the frame at 22-19 with 8:26 remaining.  The Giants led 29-26 with 4:49 left on the clock, but the Mighty Macs would score the final five points of the period to hold a 31-29 halftime lead.   
 
Mackie Fitzgerald and Alison Zimny tallied seven points apiece to lead Immacula's offense in the first half while Sara Smith led all player with six rebounds in the period.  The Mighty Macs shot 30.3 percent from the floor in the stanza while going 3-13 from beyond the arc and 8-13 from the free throw line.
 
Robinson led Keystone with nine points in the first half while AAliya Hayes (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) added six points in the period.  Chantel Blake (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) was the Giants leading rebounder with five boards in the stanza.  Keystone shot 34.6 percent from the field in the opening frame while going 1-7 from three-point range and 8-11 from the stripe.
 
Ashley Evans (Wooster, OH/Wooster) opened the scoring in the second half with a three pointer to give Keystone the lead again, but Immaculata responded with a 14-3 run to build a 45-35 lead with 15:23 remaining in regulation.  The Giants trimmed their deficit to three points at 49-46 at the 12:32 mark when Blake connected on a pair of free throws before the Mighty Macs pieced together a 12-2 run to extend their advantage to 61-48 with 8:34 left.  Keystone drew to within seven points at 65-58 at the 5:22 mark on a Robinson field goal, but the Giants would come no closer as Immaculata remained unbeaten in seven conference games to date this season.
 
Brittany Merkle led five Immaculata players in double-figures with a game high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds.  Fitzgerald and Smith netted 14 points apiece, Zimny netted 11 points, and Adriana Sciasci scored 10 points for the Mighty Macs, who finished the night shooting 46.7 percent from the floor, 25 percent from downtown, and 75.8 percent from the free throw line.  Smith also rounded out a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds in the win.
 
Hayes paced Keystone with 18 points off the bench while Robinson finished the game with 16 points, a game-high seven assists, and five rebounds.  Evans added 14 points while Blake scored 11 points while finishing a rebound shy of her third-straight double-double, leading the Giants with nine boards.  For the game, Keystone shot 45.3 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 77.8 percent from the line.
 
The Giants return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Gwynedd Mercy University in a CSAC contest slated to tipoff at 1:00 p.m. in the Gambal Athletic Center.
