Farmingdale State - 71, The Sage Colleges - 68


Albany, N.Y. - Trailing 68-67 with 1:28 remaining, Farmingdale State scored the final four points of the game as they earned a 71-68 road victory at The Sage Colleges on Monday evening. The Rams handed the Gators their first Skyline Conference loss of the season.

After Sage (8-5, 4-1) jumped out to a 20-13 lead, the Rams (6-7, 3-1) answered with a 17-0 run to go ahead by 10, 30-20, with 1:29 left in the first half. Junior guard Lea McClain (Schenectady, N.Y.) responded with a 3-pointer and freshman guard Frankie Pearson (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) was fouled with one second remaining and hit all three at the line to cut the Gators deficit to 30-26 at the break.

Tied 33-33, Farmingdale State used a 12-2 run which included eight points by junior guard Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) to take a 10-point lead with 14:09 remaining.

The Rams led 58-51 with 8:28 left to play, before a 9-0 Sage run put the Gators ahead by two, 60-58. Sage increased their lead to three until Farmingdale State senior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) was fouled on a 3-point shot and connected on all three free-throws to tie the game at 64-64 with 3:02 remaining.

With 12 seconds left on the clock, sophomore guard Andrea Desvignes (Deer Park, N.Y.) gave the Rams a three point lead after converting at the free-throw line. Sage was unable to hit a game-tying 3 at the buzzer as Farmingdale State earned the 71-68 win.

Romero scored a game-high 22 points on 7-of 15 shooting, while Young had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Sage was led by sophomore forward Sara Tironi (Cambridge, N.Y.) who recorded a team-leading 18 points and nine boards.

The Rams next will host St. Joseph's in a Skyline Conference game on Thursday, January 23rd at 6:00 p.m.
