Geneseo Takes Down Fredonia, 81-70

GENESEO N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Allison McKenna scored a season-high 24 points as the Knights went on to win 80-71 over Fredonia (8-5, 3-4 SUNYAC) in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's basketball, Tuesday.

Fellow junior forward Shannon McGinnis was one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing nine boards. 

Geneseo was up, 41-39, heading into halftime after what was an even battle for most of the first half. 

"I definitely saw some growth in our team tonight. The start was a bit slow but we did a nice job of pulling it together to get on the same page offensively," said Geneseo head coach Scott Hemer. 

The teams exchnaged buckets early in the second half but a three-pointer by first-year forwardBridgit Ryan, just three minutes in, gave the Knights a lead they would not concede the remainder of the game. McGinnis shined in the second half scoring nine points and eight  rebounds. Ryan also helped out down low, grabbing eight boards of her own.

Fredonia's Alexis Cheatham led all scorers with 27 points.

Geneseo out-rebounded the Blue Devils 44-33 while shooting 72.4% (21-29) from the free-throw line, up from their season average of 66.4%. 

The Knights are on the road this weekend where they will face New Paltz and Oneonta on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
