Hilbert Beats Behrend For First AMCC Win

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's basketball team earned the program's first-ever victory over Penn State Behrend and this season's first AMCC win tonight as Natalie Whitman's 24 points and 20 rebounds led the Hawks to a 58-47 win.

Hilbert's 36.5% field goal shooting bettered Behrend's 25.4% and they held an 11-rebound advantage for the night. The Lions were more successful at the charity stripe, hitting 7 of the team's 10 foul shots compared to Hilbert's 58.8% (10 of 17) which were all taken in the second half.

Wyann Jackson scored 7 points, hitting her first three attempts in the opening half and added 4 assists on the night. Amber Hay earned game-high honors with 3 blocks leading Hilbert to a six-block night. Kateland Ball posted 6 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds.

Behrend was led by Brianna Bayly's 13 points and 4 assists in 38 minutes. Brittany Kiger finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds while Ally Burke had 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Ball opened the scoring with a short jumper which was countered by Behrend's Bayly who connected on a 3-pointer. The first ten minutes of play saw nine lead changes. Behrend used an offensive rebound and a Hilbert turnover to tie the game up for the last time at 15-15 with 9:46 left.

The Hawks headed to the locker room after going on an 11-4 run to take control 28-23 by the break. Whitman led the hosts with 8 points making 4 of 7 shots.

Hilbert's defensive efforts held the Lions scoreless for the first seven minutes of the second half, as the Hawks went on a 7-0 run. Whitman owned the glass pulling down 13 caroms (7 offensive) and added 16 of Hilbert's 30 second-half points.

The Hawks got scoring out of all nine players with Hilbert's bench outscoring Behrend's by 11 points.

Hilbert returns to action this Thursday when they host D'Youville College at 8 pm. The Spartans escaped with a 72-70 home victory two weeks ago.
