The Pitt-Bradford women's basketball team suffered a 62-45 loss to the visiting Medaille Mavericks on Monday, Jan. 20. On a night when little went right for the Panthers, junior Alicia Kimmel paced the squad with 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Pitt-Bradford (9-7, 5-4) began the game with good movement offensively and had little trouble stopping the Mavericks' attack.

The Panthers kept the scoring close throughout the first nine minutes of game time. A quick layup from Medaille off a Carly Dalton turnover started the scoring spree for the Mavericks.

Once the ball began to roll for Medaille, there was little the Panthers could do to slow the tenacious attack. Basket-by-basket the lead mounted in the first half of play.

Turnovers and missed opportunities at the bucket plagued Pitt-Bradford for the first half, and as a result, the Panthers headed to the locker room trailing 37-16.

Pitt-Bradford shot just 24.1 percent from the field in the first twenty minutes and did not attempt a triple. The Panthers were 2-of-4 from the line.

Medaille finished the first half shooting 52 percent from the field, including a whopping 66.7 percent from three-point land. The Mavericks were 5-of-8 from the line.

Medaille (11-4, 8-1) kept its potent scoring attack on the floor to begin the second half. The Mavericks quickly extended their lead, moving to a 41-19 advantage less than four minutes into the second half.

At the six-minute mark, the Panthers offense seemed to wake up and a Kimmel layup cut the deficit to just 13 points with time left for a comeback. Two successful free-throw attempts by Abby Brate left the Panthers needing just 11 points to tie the game.

However, the Panthers' offensive efforts could not top the quick scoring from the Mavericks. Medaille moved back to a 17-point lead with barely one minute left on the clock.

It wasn't to be for the Panthers on this night, and as the clock dwindled and began to expire, Pitt-Bradford left the court searching for answers and already looking to its next opponent.

Pitt-Bradford shot 27.3 percent from the field and could not connect on a triple in 13 attempts. The Panthers finished 9-of-13 from the line.

Medaille left the court shooting 42.6 percent for the game, including 43.8 percent from three-point land. The Mavericks were 15-of-19 from the line.

The Panthers travel to face Penn State Behrend on Thursday, Jan. 23, for an 8 p.m. tipoff in Erie, Pa.
