RIC Dispatches Plymouth State, 71-41

Plymouth, N.H.-Sophomore forward Vandell Andrade (Providence, RI) led the way with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four steals as Rhode Island College easily dispatched Plymouth State, 71-41, in Little East Conference women's basketball action played at Foley Gym on Saturday afternoon.

 

Andrade led all players with a double-double, converting 7-of-10 shots from the field. Senior forward Cara Paladino (Arlington, MA) made 6-of-8 attempts to finish with 14 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore guard Danielle LeBlanc (Warwick, RI) came off the bench to toss in 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including both three-point attempts. RIC (10-5, 4-1 LEC) won its fourth game in a row.

 

Plymouth State (2-11, 1-4 LEC) got 10 points apiece from senior Krystin Corliss (Loudon, NH) and freshman DeAsia Lawrence (Middletown, CT), while sophomore Bry Bennett (Lancaster, NH) chipped in with eight points off the bench.

 

The Panthers held their own early on, leading 9-4 through the first eight minutes of the game and 11-10 with eight minutes remaining in the first half. Bennett had the hot hand for PSU with six points while freshman Rosalie Edmonds (Goffstown, NH) had four points.

 

The Anchorwomen heated up in the final eight minutes, though, outscoring the home team 18-6 over the final eight minutes to take a 28-17 lead into the locker room. Freshman guard Alex Moore (West Newbury, MA) hit a three and senior guard Stephanie Prusko (Lincoln, RI) drained a pair from long range to spark the RIC rally.

 

The Anchorwomen opened the second half with a 12-4 burst to open up a 19-point margin. Paladino scored eight of the 12 RIC points and Andrade added four. PSU got no closer than 16 points the rest of the way.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play at Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Jan. 21 (5:30 p.m.).
